Letter III
For Ahmad
Turmoil
I had sought, amid that recurring tempest,
To dwell in stillness and behold,
With only a piercing gaze,
Silent and still,
As though within a dream.
Clamor and chaos reigned everywhere,
Such a downpour of shouts and uproars,
Until, unwitting and helpless, I sank
Into the relentless torrent of the storm.
Delirious, I spoke, dazzled and dazed,
Spinning scrolls of myriad words,
Rushing into deep darkness, in vain.
Though earnestly I had sought from the start,
With only a piercing gaze,
Silent and still,
To be confidant to myself,
To be attuned to the dream.
